3. Panzer VIII Maus

This tank was finished at the end of 1944 and is the heaviest tank that was ever created. Ironically enough, it's the enormous weight of 188 tons that made this tank useless. There just wasn't an engine around that was able to get this giant up to speeds that were acceptable. When it was designed it was said that it would be able to go up to 20 kilometers per hour, but in actuality it only reached about thirteen. However, its extreme weight did have some advantages. Instead of going over bridges (too heavy) it could go through bodies of water, and even underwater. Even with those advantages, it ended up just being too expensive and the Germans only built two of them, and they didn't even finish the second one.

Another tank that they thought about building was called the Landkreuzer P 1000 Ratte. This was meant to be a super-heavy tank weight one thousand tons. Some called this Hitler's "Super Tank", but since it was so large it was never actually constructed. If they had gone through with making it, probably it would have had guns that would rival any navy ships. The thing with these heavy weapons is that they went against Hitler's strategy, which was to attack quickly and surprise his opponents.
