5: Boeing B-47 Stratojet

The B 47 Stratojet wasn't that popular when it was first launched in 1947. No one really took notice of this aircraft. The technology used to create it came from Germany, and it used a strange tricycle undercarriage that made many people think that it would only be used as a research aircraft. However, in the middle of 1948 the people in charge came to realize that it was much better than the other planes of the time with its straight wingspan.

Chuck Yeager was used to test out the jet to check out how fast it could go. When he tested it, he was able to break a record for speed with an average of almost 610 miles per hour. A few years later 2,000 of them were built for the military.

Although it didn't have the distance ability and payload, it was an important bomber during the first years of the Cold War.
