Richard Arvine Overton is known to be the oldest American Army Veteran and he is already 107 years old. After World War II he returned and built his home in Austin, Texas. During World War II between 1942 and 1945, Overton was deployed in the South Pacific. His secret of long and healthy life was credited to his dynamic and vibrant activities and daily dose of baby aspirin. Being constantly active physically, undergoing regular mental exercisse and alertness are the factors of his longevity as he disclosed during his recognition for his service by the mayor of Austin,Texas, Lee Leffingwell . He emphasized that continuous workouts and a little amount of whisky a day helps him maintain his good health and fitness. He explained that whisky is a good medicine for the retention of good muscles and bones. His comrades and colleagues he has knonw over the decades either perished in the battlefield or died naturally after the war. He is preparing to have retreat in the home he built in Texas after the World War II nn this very especial day. This is the only thing he wanted. Mr. Overton, you rock.

Iraqi war veteran was killed buying an iPad through Craigslist by the sellers, brothers in Indianapolis. The iPad was intended to be a Christmas gift for a parent in his family. The murderers were only 18 and 19 years old on the west side of Indianapolis. Sadly, the deceased, James Vester, just 32 years old, was a father of one year old baby boy. He served in the Indiana National Guard as well as being deployed to the Iraqi war zone. James Vester's fellow National Guard members all know he was a dedicated Soldier for 12 years and proud father. To help his family they have started a fundraiser, donations can be given at www.YouCaring.com. Sergeant Major Williams, Tony, said, "He had a huge heart and he was the type of person you could depend on." R.I.P. The two brothers, Tyshaune Kincade (18) and Tyron Kincade (19) are being held without bond in the Marion County Jail. On Monday they were charged with robbery and murder for shooting James Vester to death on Wednesday in a parking lot located in the west side of Indianapolis.

Famous saying of General Douglas MacArthur "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." In the US, the Armed Forces Day is commemorated every 3rd Saturday of May. The AF Week starts on the 2nd Saturday of May and concludes on the 3rd Sunday of May that's why the Armed Forces Day falls on Saturday, the day before the Armed Forces Week ends. In the year 2013 the Armed Forces Day falls on May 18. The first celebration or commemoration of this great day was held on the 20th of May 1950. The celebration was made on Aug 31, 1949 to give honor to those Americans who worked and served in the five U.S. military branches namely, the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard after integration of the military branches in the U.S. Dept. of Defense. Jim fights with with not having a home and his drinking problem, but thankfully the ministries have taken him in and given him a second chance. This is so sweet: an old World War Two Russian tank vet has finally located the tank he served in which he went through all the war in, erected in little Russian village as a monument and got emotionally affected that people were worried that his heart wouldn't be able to take it.

A desperate U.S. Army veteran and a plumber without work identified as Shawn Timothy Nelson who took an M60A3 tank for a ride from the US National Guard Armory in San Diego, California was taken out of this world by police :). With the Patton tank he ran amok and destroyed street signs, recreational vehicle and really anything that came to his way which finally led to his killing by the authorities. Check it out.

The USS Arizona that sank and still lies on the ocean floor of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, now called the Arizona Memorial is still leaking oil. Pictures taken and investigation by the History Channel indicate that the ship memorial, "Continues to spill up to 9 quarts of oil into the harbor each day." It sounds impossible as the ship was attacked on 7 December, 1941 by the Japanese. Visitors are able to actually walk on a memorial built over the sunken ship and see with their own eyes the actual ship and leaking oil. It's been said that," When the last drop of oil comes up from this mighty ship, that the last of the WWII veterans will have passed." Veterans have done their share in protecting us and preserving our freedom. We must therefore treat them with utmost respect. Unfortunately, a veteran was insulted for something rather petty. Kenneth Knudson, an 88 year-old veteran who served in WWII was jailed for a very silly reason. Kenneth is the owner of a jewelry store situated in Horton, Kansas. There was a crack on the outer wall of his shop. He had the store for 30 years now and since he was unable to fix the crack he was treated as a criminal. Kenneth had to spend the night in a cell and he was also asked to pay a fine amounting to $500. He was put to jail one day after Christmas. Kenneth said that he did not feel as if he committed a crime, but he added that he understood the city's requirement to repair places that had damage. Still, the punishment was too much. The city offered to have the repairs done for about $10,000. The cost would be applied to his tax bill. However, the veteran still would not be able to afford the cost. The gold medal of Honor is hanging around this soldier's neck, but you can see the prosthetic in his hand that catches your attention. The hand is able to hold a glass or shake someone's hand, just like the one that a ranger used last week to shake President Obama's hand as he became the 2nd living veteran since the sixties to be awarded the highest honor offered by our nation. These hand movements are all controlled by a motion sensor that is connected to the brain and allows the user to do many normal actions. When he needs to, the soldier can change his hand to suit different circumstances. When he's doing some work in the kitchen he can take off the hand part and put a knife blade on his arm so that he can prepare food easily for his family. When he's out with his friends golfing he can attach another special device that helps him hold the golf club correctly so he can swing just as well as the other players. "I'm not the best player in the world, but I have a good time" the soldier said in a meeting with the press. "I'm able to really relax and have a fun time. Plus I've met a lot of fantastic people doing it." The soldier lost his hand when he was trying to grab a hand grenade and throw it in another direction. By doing that he saved the lives of two fellow soldiers and was awarded a medal at the White House. When he was a child he always saw the medal as something that would be an honor to be awarded. However, when he won it he felt completely overwhelmed because of all the attention he was receiving. Over the last week he travelled all around, including visit to Ground Zero, and also waving to fans at a baseball game in New York. But it is his new hand that has gotten the most looks, showing some of the improvements in military technology that are letting more injured veterans to serve on after injury in the military. "I just want to say that your hand is pretty awesome before we get into the show," said a famous show host before he began an interview with the soldier. The soldier stated his experience with the advances in military medicine came when he was first in a hospital for burn victims and amputees. "When I walked around the place I was amazed. I couldn't even tell the difference when I saw a guy with a fake leg when he had pants on," the soldier said. "I was amazed. The technology has come so far that there's nothing that they can't do." He also has been brought down to earth by the "great moods" of other soldiers with medical problems much worse than his. In his current job he helps injured military personnel from all areas and their families. He gives advice to soldiers and also assists families set up transport, meals and a place to stay. But he, even after being injured, wanted to go back to serve. Earlier this year he went back to the Middle East for his 8th tour in a war zone. "Over the past couple of years I've been seeing the other men training, and it's fantastic to finally be back and serving again," he said. "The most difficult thing about this was having my wife understand why I wanted to go back. She said that I had already lost so much, why would I want to go back?" The soldier said to her that his risk isn't any more than the other soldiers already over there serving. She responded by saying that she knew it was important for him and that he should be with his men.
