This is so sweet: an old World War Two Russian tank vet has finally located the tank he served in which he went through all the war in, erected in little Russian village as a monument and got emotionally affected that people were worried that his heart wouldn't be able to take it.

Most of the German and Russian weapons that were used to destroy tanks during the Second World War didn't have turrets, but some of the English and American weapons did. Most of the tank destroyers had the same size gun that tanks had, but at a less expensive cost. These tank destroyers did their job well against tanks, but when it came to going up against soldiers on foot they were very ineffective. Bomb dogs, anti-tank dogs used by the Russian Red Army were true victims because of desperation. The Russians were overwhelmed by the Eastern Front from the German Wehrmacht so they had trained dogs to carry bombs to specific targets. Once they released the device from their teeth the dogs should have gone back to their operator. This was nearly impossible to get them to do this and in the end they just blew up the dog when they reached their target. The average bomb the dogs carried were 26 pounds that was strapped onto them. They were kept deliberately hungry all the time. This made the dogs run to targets thinking they would be fed, totally unaware of their deadly fate. When the dog dived under a tank a lever that was attached to their rig would cause the bomb to detonate on contact. Because it was so effective, Germans began to shoot all dogs on sight out of paranoia. Thought undocumented, there were an estimated 300 German tanks destroyed and over 40,000 dogs used by the Soviets for different Army tasks.

In Russia, sunbathers were surprised when a hovercraft interrupted a peaceful day at the beach. Hundreds of people became first hand eyewitnesses to the unexpected landing of a 60-meter military hovercraft. The beach was packed with beach-goers, sunbathers and tourists when without a warning the hovercraft approached. There were no injuries but it was reported that the people were afterwards surrounded by Russian military paratroopers. This air-cushioned landing military craft is the Soviet-designed Zubr-class, which is the biggest hovercraft in the world as of 2012. Currently, there are nine active and operational hovercrafts of this kind in the world. It can plant and transport mines and it can sea-lift tanks or marines (assault units) from both non-equipped and equipped vessels to the shore. The hovercraft is being used by the Greek Navy, The Ukrainian Navy and the Russian Navy. On Sunday a vessel designed specifically to destroy ice will depart from Australia en route to Antarctica to help rescue over one hundred twenty crew members that were on two ice breaking vessels trapped in the ice close to the edge of Antarctica. The Polar Star is one hundred twenty two meters long and has been sent out after Russia, Australia, and China were asked to help the Russian and Chinese vessels. They are afraid that the ships won't be able to get out of the ice on their own, says the Coast Guard. The Russian ship plowing the seas under the name Akademik Shokalskiy has been stuck out in the Commonwealth Bay since the day before Christmas. The Chinese ship came to help out, but they got stuck too. Let us know what you think.

It was a very sad day in Izhevsk, a Russian city where the infamous assault rifle AK-47 is produced. Its inventor, Mikhail Kalashnikov has died at a ripe age of 94. He had been plagued by heart-related problems for years now, so it comes as no surprise, however, it is still sad to see him go. However, AK-47 is here to stay, so Mikhail's legacy lives on.

The BMPT-72, or Terminator 2, is a new type of tank that is being made to support combat in Russia. It first came out in September of 2013 in an expo in Russian Nizhny Tagil. It has a guided shooting system that can take out tanks, infantry, and other objects from far away. I love it, don't you?
