The technology used for these planes had only been developed for ten years when WWI began, but because of the war the technology progressed rapidly. The first bomber from England, called the Handley Page, started attacking in 1916 as a way of going after the German Zeppelin facilities that were wreaking havoc on the London skies.

They had a couple of engines from Rolls Royce and could go up to almost 80 miles per hour. They could drop two thousand pounds of bombs on their targets and rarely miss. When the war ended, the Handley became one of the units that was first used by civilians to travel through the air.
