Major Harold Hering asked what he thought was a clever question. However, the irony is that the higher brass did not think so and dismissed him. Major Hering inquired on the missile launch order's two-man rule. (This involves two independent operators verifying and agreeing on the validity of an order to launch). Major Hering was part of the Air Rescue Service during the Vietnam War. He was serving as Minuteman missile crewman, a 21 year career man in the Air Force when he asked the fateful question. He was expecting to be promoted to Lt. Colonel at that time. It was late in the year 1973 during a training activity at Vandenberg Air Force Base when he inquired about how can one know when an order is received to launch missiles the president who gave the order is still sane. Major Hering's question revealed a critical flaw in the two-man rule. Until now the fail safe protocols on nuclear missile launch hinge on the identity of the President and not his sanity. Do you think that this a fair question? Leave a comment
The military force of North Korea is prepared to launch operation and aggression against United States and South Korea after weeks of alleged hostility and provocation. North Korea has repeatedly challenged and intimidated their Southern neighbor and United States, however has yet to attack either of the parties. Tragic consequences may occur warned the North's military spokesman after learning that a group of battle ships including aircraft carrier was deployed to South Korean port. The spokesman also confirmed that all service ready units of the KPA are on an emergency order from its commanding officers and should be ready to attack at any time. Finally, he added that if North Korea is going to attack, US is going to be held accountable. Meanwhile there was no sign of military action in the North said the South Korea's Minister of Defense Kim Kwan-jin on Tuesday. Washington ignored the North's warning. What are your thoughts?
Sadly, the news this morning is not something that anyone would want to wake up to. Two private American citizens were fatalities in a suicide attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. A restaurant in Kabul that is frequented by foreigners was the target of a Taliban suicide bomber and gunmen. Thirteen of the 21 people who lost their lives that day were foreign nationals. Among those who were killed were the IMF's highest level representative in the country and three staff members of the United Nations. The foreigners' bodies were moved to a military base in the capital. A spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office confirmed that two British subjects were killed in the attack. While the struggle between the US and Afghanistan continues as they try to agree on a bilateral agreement, attacks on civilians continue to occur on a daily basis. RIP Sad, don't you think?
At the Army Aviation Symposium held in Arlington, Virginia last week, one officer of the US Army made an announcement. He said that the Army intends to adopt robots in the future as it tapers down on personnel. The biggest surprise about this statement is the magnitude of the downscaling of personnel. By the year 2019, the US Army intends to attain these numbers: 540,000 personnel to 420,000 personnel. Gen. Robert Cone, the head of the Training & Doctrine Command of the US Army gave a few more details regarding this plan. He added that the Army is looking to reduce the number of soldiers from 4,000 to about 3,000. He added that to keep the efficiency of operations more robots will be added. Share your thoughts
America has begun an offensive missile launch in Somalia. The strike has been confirmed by two American officials. There wasn't a firm confirmation of where the strike targetted, but it is most likely a leader in al Qaeda. Somali officials have reported that a top military commander was killed inside his car when a missile hit it. American intelligence is still investigating how effective the strike actually was. There has been no confirmation on where drones were used in the strike or if it was carried out in another way.
On April 15th, 2013 James Costello was at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. He was right near where the explosions occurred with friends from his childhood. Both his arms and legs were burned so badly that they had to use pig skin to help the areas heal. He said on his Facebook wall that even though it was a horrible day for him that it has led to happiness. James proposed to his wife while they were traveling in Europe for survivors of bombings. The two met because of this tragic event, and the trip seemed like the best way to begin their shared life together. James proposed in Lyon, France. aaaaah :). The bombing at the Boston Marathon was a horrible occurrence, but there is still something beautiful that came from it. It goes to show you that not all things in our lives are black and white and that in the end there can be beauty.
Dog is truly man's best friend. It just warms my heart to see how extatic boxer Chuck was when his daddy came home.
